GALA's WALL OF SHAME

Gala has realised for some time that much alcohol promotion occurs outside standard advertising systems and that the present complaint systems through the ASA and BSA are ineffective or do not cover the promotions.

Advertorial promotions are common as is brand advertising and brand sponsorship and it has become increasingly difficult to curb these in any way. This has produced an almost complete saturation  of alcohol promotion and marketing of alcohol in NZ.

For this reason , we have set up this Wall of Shame  which will complement our Wall of Fame. We will add to these as time  goes by in an effort to keep viewers aware of those who are socially responsible and those who are not.

MEMBERS

Lion Nathan ...

who state on their website that they are "bringing more sociability and well being to our world," and "We invest in a constructive culture for our people."  (underlining is from GALA). DB certainly has a stretched imagination and an inability to face the facts on the effects of their marketed drug.

Foodtown, Woolworths, Countdown and New World Supermarkets ...

who run large advertisements ,with discounted alcoholic drinks next to non-alcoholic drinks or in conjunction with staple food items.

The women Editors of major Women’s magazines ...

who do not answer letters from GALA inviting them to not accept alcohol advertisements that do not contain a warning about the problems of drinking alcohol prior to or during pregnancy. It seems they do not have any concerns about protecting the unborn.

The All Blacks ...

for their obvious promotion of a brand of beer

The vice-Chancellor of Auckland University ...

who states that Auckland students “do not have an alcohol problem.”

The numerous Cabinet MP’s ...

who use their ministerial Credit cards to buy alcohol

Lion Breweries and TUI  breweries ...

who regard themselves a socially responsible and then exploit our NZ people with alcohol promotions in every way possible.
